About this grant
The project goal is to improve the effectiveness of transition assistance to emerging democracies and postconflict societies, particularly with respect to the development of inclusive and dynamic civil society and civic space. To this end, the Institute for Integrated Transitions, an international nonprofit based in Barcelona, will put together a "transition assistance practice group" made up of experts and practitioners that have worked on political, social, and economic development in different contexts around the world. During the grant period, the practice group will work directly with groups of policymakers and civil society leaders that the grantee has convened through on-the-ground work in Colombia, Venezuela, the Gambia, and/or Zimbabwe. The practice group will support the country-based leadership groups with strategic guidance on matching available transition assistance with locally identified development priorities in their countries. Through direct involvement with the local expert group, the grantee and the practice group will make available know-how, key lessons, and innovative practices from other countries’ transitions, including South Africa and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
