About this grant
Today six out of every ten Tanzanians lack access to clean energy services. An estimated $80 billion of energy investments will be required between 2019-40 to ensure universal access to modern energy services in the country. While the Government of Tanzania, the private sector and the development community have made significant investments to increase energy access, the International Energy Agency estimates that by 2030 some 44 million Tanzanians will still lack access to modern energy services. With Mott Foundation support over the past four years, Fraxen Consulting has been coordinating civil society efforts in Tanzania to demonstrate a model approach to accelerating access to modern energy services with distributed renewable energy solutions. With renewed support and drawing on lessons learned to date, the project will expand to include more stakeholders. Fraxen will strengthen its coordination and partnership-building function towards advancing solutions to energy poverty, particularly in off-grid communities of Tanzania.
