About this grant
The program goal is to produce new knowledge on legal needs globally. The World Justice Project will work to provide robust data and analysis of legal needs, the economic costs of access to justice and data collection and measurement in these areas. In addition, the grantee will develop a toolkit on civil justice indicators, to support wider efforts to measure access. The grantee will use the results of its research and analysis to advocate for more accessible, cost-effective and meaningful justice solutions, using events such as the World Justice Forum to showcase this work. In 2020-21, the grantee published “Global Insights on Access to Justice,” a comprehensive report on legal needs in 101 countries, providing comparable data to understand the magnitude and nuance of justice needs globally. Despite the pandemic, the grantee regularly convened partners to push forward on improving measurement of access to civil justice, following adoption of an official indicator for this under Sustainable Development Goal 16. Established initially as a project of the American Bar Association in 2006, the World Justice Project was formally registered as an independent organization in 2009, working to advance the rule of law around the world.
