About this grant

Over the past several years, the Center for Civil Society Studies at Johns Hopkins University has worked with the United Nations Statistics Division on revisions and expansions to the United Nations Handbook on Nonprofit and Related Institutions and Volunteer Work in the System of National Accounts—its guidance to countries on gathering statistics about nonprofit institutions, volunteer work, and the social economy. The goal of this project is to enhance the quality, reliability, and accessibility of national-level data on nonprofit organizations and volunteering around the world. Since the official release of the new handbook in May 2018, the center has been undertaking education and dissemination efforts to encourage implementation of the resulting broadened civil society sector statistical procedures into the statistical systems of countries around the world. A grant increase and extension will allow the grantee to expand its work to promote and support the implementation of the new handbook.
