About this grant
The project goal is to support the development of community foundations in Kenya. Over the last two years, the Kenya Community Development Foundation has worked with existing initiative groups to adopt the community foundation model. This included bolstering their leadership and governance structures, strengthening their ability to raise local funding and building connections between the groups. In addition, the grantee improved its understanding of the community foundation concept and documented case studies from the field. During this grant period, the grantee will expand its work to other communities that have the potential to establish community foundations, deepen their support to existing groups and document their experiences as a community foundation support organization. Additionally, the grantee will connect community foundations that emerge from this project and continue to raise support from other sectors for the community foundation field in Kenya. Based in Nairobi, the Kenya Community Development Foundation was established in 1997 to promote community-driven approaches to development in Kenya.
