About this grant
For over a decade, the Council of State Governments has brought together state and provincial policymakers from the Great Lakes region to learn about key issues affecting the lakes, exchange information and ideas and build their capacity to be effective leaders and stewards of the lakes. With prior Mott support, the grantee educated policymakers and convened them to share information and lessons from neighboring jurisdictions, and launched the Patricia Birkholz Institute for Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Policy, an intensive learning program that took policymakers on a “deep dive” into the nutrient pollution issue. With renewed support, the Council of State Governments will maintain all of the activities of the project, including a new Birkholz Institute program on climate resilience.
