About this grant

The Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission works with tribal governments in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota to protect tribal interests in the ecology of ceded territories in the northern portions of those states. With previous grant support from the Mott Foundation, the grantee identified and implemented steps to participate effectively in permitting and environmental reviews. With continued support, the grantee will increase baseline water monitoring, map vital wetland habitats in areas of interest to the tribes where land use changes are proposed, help implement aspects of the federal Clean Water Act and introduce students to natural resource management and tribal self-governance careers.
