General Purposes

About this grant

This grant will support increased access to justice for poor and marginalized people in Malawi. To this end, the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe will continue to implement primary and informal justice work in the central region of Malawi. The grantee’s activities will include providing justice services through its network of community paralegals, training of paralegals, documenting the work of community paralegals, networking and learning from Malawian and other African organizations doing similar work. Past support has allowed the grantee to train 384 paralegals in 17 districts in Malawi. Community paralegals mediated over 400 cases and made referrals to various other organizations. Founded in 1992, the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe is a well-established and credible organization working towards peace and justice in Malawi.
