About this grant
With partial support from the Mott Foundation this project features an environmental fellows program that places graduate students in environmental organizations and foundations across the United States. The program fills a vital need to build a pipeline of future leaders from previously under-represented racial, ethnic and social classes. Historically, research shows that people of color are not well represented in environmental organizations, including those in the Great Lakes region. With renewed support to the project, now housed at Yale University, three such fellows will be placed in Great Lakes organizations each year out of a nation-wide class of 30 fellows. All of the fellows will be supported with training and mentoring. In addition to the fellowship program itself, the project includes a national convening for the fellows and a robust national research agenda.
