About this grant

The Social Change Assistance Trust works to improve the quality of life in poor communities by supporting community-based organizations that promote access to justice, gender equity, youth empowerment and food security. To achieve this, the grantee makes grants, provides training and connects organizations working in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces. Activities under the previous grant included making grants of over $500,000 to 30 community advice offices and local development agencies in the three provinces, enabling the organizations to respond to immediate needs in the wake of COVID-19. Building on previous work, the grantee provided training to women on gender-based violence, increased the number of organizations receiving support and funding and produced four publications that profile the work of the grantees and partners. During this grant period, the Social Change Assistance Trust will continue to support community advice offices in improving the lives of poor communities through its programs.
