About this grant

Great Lakes Now is an initiative of Detroit Public Television that provides communities and residents with accessible, important news and information related to the health of the lakes, including water quality. Even as the Great Lakes provide astounding benefit to the region’s 40-million residents and the regional economy, many communities continue to grapple with the effects of aging infrastructure and pollution threatening the availability of safe and affordable drinking water. With previous support from the Mott Foundation, Great Lakes Now has grown dramatically and is now available in 20 markets through 31 stations. Previous support has also led to the creation of the Great Lakes News Collaborative with three other media outlets. With renewed support, the station will continue to grow its coverage of Great Lakes and drinking water issues and expects to collaborate with partners to produce and publish at least 250 articles this year.
