Community Foundation Development in Spain

About this grant

The project goal is to develop community foundations in Spain. To this end, in 2020, the Spanish Association of Foundations launched a 10-year program to foster a strong and vibrant community foundation movement in Spain. Through this program, the grantee will work to: 1) develop at least 40 new community foundations, covering 50% of Spain’s territory; 2) create a national network of Spanish community foundations; 3) ensure that the community foundations adhere to internally developed quality standards; and 4) encourage the Spanish community foundations to play a leadership role in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals on the local level. During the past grant period, the grantee publicized the community foundation concept, supported local initiatives to develop community foundations and facilitated the establishment of two new community foundations, bringing the number of community foundations in Spain to nine. During the next two years, the Spanish Association of Foundations will focus on promoting the concept of community foundations, developing and strengthening new community foundations and facilitating networking among community foundations on the national and international levels.
