About this grant
The project goal is to increase financing for community justice and environment defenders from mining companies and development financing institutions in Southern Africa. To this end, the Southern Africa Resource Watch will workshop its toolkit developed for governments, corporations, development finance institutions, civil society and communities in applying the best financing principles for environment and justice defenders in Southern Africa. The grantee will also continue to engage the African Development Bank and the International Council of Mining and Metals on financing and grievance mechanisms for injustices and rights violations. Past support helped the grantee to research mining companies’ financing practices in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Based on this research, the grantee developed a toolkit to assist in the better application of financing practices. The Southern Africa Resource Watch is a regional nonprofit organization that promotes the transparent and accountable use of natural resources in Southern Africa.
