About this grant

Freshwater Future is a regional organization that is a catalyst for community action to strengthen policies and safeguard the waters of the Great Lakes region. Since its inception in 1996, with significant support from the Mott Foundation, the grantee has provided over $4 million in grants and technical assistance to grassroots groups around the Great Lakes basin. This grantee fills a critical niche in the Great Lakes community as an organization solely dedicated to supporting individuals and communities working to protect land and water resources. This grant increase will be available for the organization’s general purposes, including an initiative to secure equipment for a community lab in Flint, Michigan to test for PFAS, a chemical contaminant found in water.
