About this grant

The Centro de Estudos Avançados de Promoção Social e Ambiental is a nonprofit organization in the Amazon founded in 1985 to promote sustainable community development and Amazon forest conservation by improving public policies and quality of life of children, youth, indigenous peoples and minority populations. Over the previous grant period, the grantee focused on strengthening off-grid clean energy for health and vaccine preservation, solar-powered access to potable water and power for productive uses such as refrigeration of fruit pulp. The grantee also trained solar technicians at its Active Forest Center in the Tapajos River region of the Brazilian Amazon. Over the next grant period, Centro de Estudos Avançados de Promoção Social e Ambiental will work with isolated Indigenous communities in the Tapajos to implement sustainable community-managed renewable energy, continue its training programs and help organize a policy symposium and trade fair on renewable electrification for isolated communities.
