About this grant
The project goal is to collectively address the systemic injustices that precarious workers face. To this end, the Casual Workers Advice Office will continue to work with other advice offices and organizations to meet the justice needs of precarious workers. It will also continue to train community paralegals on contemporary labor related laws. Past support has helped the grantee to continue organizing precarious workers to address systemic injustices. The grantee also assisted precarious workers to organize themselves into institutions that serve their needs. In this regard, it won a Labor Court victory upholding all workers’ constitutional rights to form organizations free of prior state approval. These injustices often take up a large portion of advice office caseloads. Established in 2011, the grantee gives free legal advice to workers who have been dismissed or face other labor violations by their employers in South Africa.
