About this grant
This grant will enable the Alfond Scholarship Foundation to continue implementing the Harold Alfond College Challenge Program Evaluation, the nation’s first statewide children’s savings account program. Anticipated priorities and activities during the renewal grant period include family outreach, stakeholder engagement, policy development and evaluation. The grantee will also advance field-building by utilizing and disseminating research findings from the first two grant periods to inform new program design innovations in Maine and nationally. Created in 2008 as a pilot program in Portland, Maine, the college challenge program automatically awards a $500 grant to every child born in the state as an incentive to catalyze educational savings and to help more children aspire to attend college.
