About this grant
Michigan State University has served the people of the state of Michigan since 1855 through its unique role as a Land Grant Institution. Its College of Human Medicine, founded in 1964, was the nation’s first community-based medical school. Building upon an active presence in Flint since the mid-1960’s, the College of Human Medicine launched Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine’s Flint campus in 2011. With this grant, the grantee will increase the impact of its Flint Division of Public Health program by elevating it to a university department and hiring additional faculty, staff and endowed professors of public health. The program has a successful track record of engaging with Flint residents to improve health, contributing to the local economy and educating a new generation of health professionals.
