About this grant

Traditional and Indigenous forest dwellers in the Amazon rely mainly on canoes and boats to travel in the rainforest. Additionally, forest clearing for roads and other linear infrastructure brings deforestation and degradation in its wake. The Kara Solar Foundation and its partners in the Achuar territory of Ecuador have developed the first solar-powered boats and linked them to efforts to solarize their villages. This project will provide general-purpose support to replicate the solar transport and electrification model in other Amazon Indigenous territories in Ecuador, Brazil, Suriname/French Guiana and also in the Solomon Islands.
