About this grant
More than 240 scientists and researchers came together in 2020 to form the world’s first high-level science initiative dedicated to the survival of the Amazon basin. Convened under the auspices of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, this Science Panel for the Amazon launched its first Amazon Assessment Report as well as three policy briefs over the previous project period, all of which garnered good media attention. A presentation of the Panel’s findings and recommendations were also held with key development banks and leaders at the international Climate Conference in 2022. During this grant period, the grantee will continue analysis and dialogues with financial institutions, including mapping the key finance institutions operating in the Amazon, particularly for energy and infrastructure. Policy briefs and dialogues with development finance institutions will promote the Panel’s recommendations and new ways of mobilizing finance for conserving and restoring nature, as well as for sustainable low-forest-impact development.
