About this grant

The Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense is a nonprofit environmental law and policy organization in Latin America and the United States. Over the previous grant period, the grantee monitored implementation and compliance with new safeguards policies and the exclusion of fossil fuel finance at the Inter-American Development Bank and worked to strengthen measures to improve protections for environmental defenders. Organization attorneys also worked on cases at the accountability mechanism of the Inter-American Development Bank related to large hydroelectric dams in Colombia, Chile and Guatemala. Over the next grant period, the Interamerican Association for Environmental Defense will continue to monitor the implementation of the new environmental social governance framework of the Inter-American Development Bank, strengthen strategies to protect environmental defenders and prepare a report on lessons learned over the course of this project.
