About this grant
The organization’s goal is to improve the quality of life in poor communities in South Africa by supporting community-based organizations that promote access to justice, gender equity, human rights, youth empowerment and food security. To this end, the Social Change Assistance Trust makes grants to community advice offices and local development agencies working in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Free State, Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces. In addition, the grantee provides training and connects organizations working in these areas. Activities under the previous grant included making grants of over $1,200,000 to 57 community advice offices, local development agencies, and other support organizations across five provinces. The grantee has built partnerships across multiple sectors and issues to unlock funding that reaches communities, including on topics such as climate change and gender based violence. During this grant period, the Social Change Assistance Trust will continue to support community advice offices and local development agencies to improve the quality of life for communities on the margins.
