About this grant

Michigan State University has been awarded a five-year grant from the National Science Foundation Convergence Program to support an interdisciplinary team of engineers, hydrologists, climatologists and social scientists to develop innovative energy solutions for isolated communities impacted by large-scale hydroelectric development in the Amazon. This project will complement that award by supporting the team to work with a federal Brazilian university and two local communities in the Tapajos River basin to assist in design and implementation of innovative sustainable energy systems, provide training for local technicians and document and disseminate media products on the benefits and results of the program for replication.
