About this grant
The project goal is to increase awareness and understanding of digital security risks to civil society organizations in West Africa. To achieve this, the West Africa Civil Society Institute produces knowledge, provides training and exposes nonprofits to policies that affect them. During the previous period, the West Africa Civil Society Institute provided training on digital security to civil society organizations in Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria and Ghana. The West Africa Civil Society Institute also launched a report that mapped the landscape in West Africa on digital security. To build on this work, the grantee plans to: 1) extend the training to other countries in the region; 2) build a cadre of trainers; 3) document knowledge and evidence on digital rights advocacy across the region; and 4) improve partnerships between policymakers and civil society through dialogue. Based in Ghana, the West Africa Civil Society Institute works to strengthen the institutional and operational capacities of civil society organizations in the region.
