Trauma Informed Campus Design

About this grant

This grant to Whaley Children’s Center will provide funds to renovate and furnish facilities on its campus. The grantee is a residential facility that serves children from age five to 17 who have been abused and/or neglected. The trauma that these children experience impacts both short- and long-term development and behaviors. Recent developments in the field of trauma-informed care suggest that the physical environment has a significant impact on children who have experienced trauma. Whaley Children’s Center is undergoing a broad effort to implement trauma-informed design practices across its campus. This project will help to transform the grantee’s family game room into a space that is welcoming, demonstrates a safe environment and provides some degree of privacy for family visits.
