About this grant
The project goal is to increase awareness, knowledge and engagement of nonprofits with policies and laws related to counterterrorism and money laundering. To achieve this, The Defenders Protection Initiative builds and strengthens the capacity of civil society organizations to push back on the policies using credible information. During the previous period, the grantee hosted information workshops in five countries in East and Southern Africa, produced learning material on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism policies and hosted a regional convening. This grant will enable the grantee to support a platform for regional engagement with relevant bodies, provide tools to strengthen civil society and conduct studies on the effects of the Financial Action Task Force’s greylisting on civil society organizations. The Defenders Protection Initiative is a national nonprofit registered in Uganda to protect human rights defenders.
