About this grant
The Instituto de Energia e Meio Ambiente is a nonprofit Brazilian think tank dedicated to research, analysis and policy evaluation to promote socially and environmentally sustainable energy and transportation development. Over the last grant period, the grantee monitored electric power plants’ social and environmental impacts and scrutinized plans by development finance institutions to expand natural gas-fired generation. With the renewal of this grant, the grantee will continue monitoring the expansion of natural gas in the country and will extend its focus to include isolated systems in the Brazilian Amazon. Additionally, Instituto de Energia e Meio Ambiente will develop a web-based platform to assist financial institutions in the Brazilian energy sector to incorporate social and environmental risks and impacts in their decision-making.
