About this grant
The Centro de Estudos Avançados de Promoção Social e Ambiental, a nonprofit organization founded in 1985, is dedicated to promoting sustainable community development and conserving the Amazon rainforest by enhancing public policies and improving the quality of life for children, youth, Indigenous peoples and traditional communities. In the previous grant period, the grantee collaborated with isolated Indigenous communities in the Tapajós River basin to: 1) implement sustainable, community-managed renewable energy solutions; 2) continue its training programs; and 3) organize a policy symposium and trade fair focused on renewable electrification for remote communities in the Amazon. In the upcoming grant period, the grantee will prioritize strengthening off-grid clean energy solutions for Indigenous health units in the Tapajós River region of the Brazilian Amazon. Centro de Estudos Avançados de Promoção Social e Ambiental will also focus on training solar technicians in local communities, emphasizing the inclusion of women and Indigenous leaders.
