About this grant
The Knight Center for Environmental Journalism at Michigan State University (MSU) teaches students to be professional environmental journalists through coursework, conferences and internships at media outlets. With previous Mott Foundation support, the Knight Center developed a project to increase diversity among its environmental journalism students. In the first two years of this project, nine students received scholarships for coursework at MSU, eight received scholarships to attend a professional development conference, and eight students received internships at the U.S.-based media outlets in the Mott-funded Great Lakes News Collaborative. With renewed support, more students from diverse backgrounds will be trained as environmental journalists.
