About this grant

The project goal is to inform a strategic vision on realizing the right to access justice for people in South Africa. To this end, the Foundation for Human Rights will undertake research on how people access justice in South Africa. Additionally, the foundation will host consultative meetings to inform, disseminate and enact the research findings. These activities will involve key stakeholders, including community advice offices, local development agencies, university legal aid clinics, nonprofit organizations, Legal Aid South Africa and South Africa’s Department of Justice and Constitutional Development. The Foundation for Human Rights was established in 1996 by the European Union and the Government of South Africa to address the historical legacy of apartheid and to promote and advance human rights based on South Africa’s Constitution.
