About this grant
This grant provides support for Michigan State University’s overall efforts to document and promote solutions that help America’s older industrial cities address chronic fiscal stress and advance overall fiscal health. In 2023-2024 the grantee began collecting fiscal data on water infrastructure for about 350 Michigan municipalities in order to assess the condition and sustainability of these systems. During the current grant period, the grantee will complete analysis and recommend strategies that help municipalities develop asset management plans that identify long-term system needs — including operating and maintenance strategies — and ensure safe and reliable water service. As with previous grant periods, Michigan State University will provide direct technical assistance to the City of Flint on a limited basis as mutually agreed upon.
