About this grant
This grant to the American Red Cross of East Central Bay-Michigan in Flint will support the organization’s efforts to address health disparities in Flint and Genesee County. Black residents are disproportionally impacted by sickle cell disease that often requires frequent blood transfusions to alleviate pain and other symptoms. Sickle cell patients have a better response to treatment when blood is donated by someone of the same race or ethnicity. This program aims to triple the number of Black donors by 2025 to better serve patients with sickle cell disease.
