About this grant
This grant to the United Way of Genesee County will provide funds for the Genesee County Historical Society to make improvements to the nine arches located along Saginaw Street in downtown Flint. The work will include structural and stabilization repairs, painting and the installation of LED lights. In 1899, the Saginaw Street arches were among the first of its kind to bring electrical lighting to a community main street in the United States. They have since become a source of community pride, celebrating Flint’s proud carriage industry heritage that put Flint on the global map.
