About this grant
Scientists estimate that approximately one-third of the greenhouse gas emissions reductions needed by 2030 must come from absorbing climate pollution in forests, wetlands, grasslands and agricultural land. In 2020, the Environmental Defense Fund — a major national environmental organization — helped convene and launch the Food and Agriculture Climate Alliance, a group of more than 80 agricultural and environmental leaders that promote shared climate policy priorities. Over the last year, the grantee has helped build support for climate-smart agricultural practices by: 1) networking with state and regional producer groups; 2) engaging in strategic communications; 3) educating policymakers about the advantages of climate-smart agricultural practices; and 4) producing reports on the benefits of such practices. With renewed support from the Mott Foundation, the Environmental Defense Fund will continue a similar range of activities over the next year, including efforts to demonstrate the benefits of climate-smart agricultural programs recently created at the federal level.
