About this grant

The Clooney Foundation for Justice works to support those suffering from mass and systemic injustices, because of who they are, what they do, or where they might find themselves. All over the world, journalists and human rights defenders are detained, prosecuted and jailed. Women, girls and minorities are subject to unfair laws and targeted for abuse. Ukrainians are at the forefront of Russia’s aggression, with potential war crimes and crimes against humanity being committed against them. The grantee seeks to address this by: 1) gathering evidence of mass human rights abuses; 2) providing free legal support to victims; and 3) working to ensure that perpetrators are held to account. Established in 2016, the Clooney Foundation for Justice works in more than 40 countries and actively investigates war crimes in Ukraine, monitors sham trials targeting women and journalists, and fights against a global trend of authoritarianism that seeks to punish those who speak truth to power.
