About this grant
The Instituto Socioambiental, a nongovernmental organization dedicated to protecting the Amazon rainforest and its Indigenous peoples, is developing model off-grid solar renewable energy systems in the Brazilian Amazon. This grant increase will support a convening in the Xingu River basin territory, one of the first Indigenous areas to receive renewable energy systems under the federal Light for All program. At the four-day networking meeting, community leaders, civil society organizations, energy companies, regulators and other stakeholders will share information, coordinate activities and build stronger partnerships. The goal is to ensure the successful implementation and management of off-grid solar energy systems in the Xingu and apply the lessons learned to broader communities throughout the Amazon region.
