About this grant
This grant will enable the City and County of San Francisco to modernize the Kindergarten-to-College program’s technology infrastructure. Mott Foundation funds will support the development of a mobile-friendly, scalable platform that enables integration with other savings programs, tracks multi-source deposits and manages creative incentives among other features. These upgrades, along with new partnerships, aim to increase participation and maximize the program’s impact on students’ long-term college savings and aspirations. San Francisco’s Kindergarten-to-College program was the first universal children’s savings account initiative in the U.S. Since its launch in 2011, the program has: 1) opened savings accounts for over 56,000 students; 2) helped families save $18.5 million for postsecondary expenses; and 3) increased college enrollment by 12 percentage points among historically underrepresented students.
