About this grant

The Global Philanthropy Environment Index — at Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy — provides a framework for a comparative assessment of the philanthropic environment at the country level and allows for a global conversation on this important topic. The goal of the program is to foster the development of a conducive environment for philanthropy across countries by providing rigorous, comparative data, to raise awareness and understanding of philanthropy, especially in developing countries. The Index’s findings help nonprofit leaders, scholars and policymakers gain a thorough understanding of the evolving environment at the country, regional and global levels, and advocate for a more supportive environment for philanthropy worldwide. The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University was founded in 2012. Its mission is to increase the understanding of philanthropy and improve its practice worldwide through critical inquiry, interdisciplinary research, teaching, training and civic engagement.
