About this grant
The project goal is to strengthen civic spaces throughout the U.S. To this end, Right to Democracy will explore and develop strategies to better engage U.S.-based partners to support civil society and philanthropic infrastructure for communities in U.S. territories. The grantee will conduct a comprehensive assessment of national philanthropy and civil society in U.S. territories to provide funders with actionable insights to: 1) expand the total amount of philanthropic investments in U.S. territories; 2) shift towards greater place-based and trust-based philanthropic practices; and 3) identify areas where the knowledge and experience of people in U.S. territories has the greatest potential to be transformative in achieving the goals of philanthropy. The grantee works with partners across all five U.S. territories and their 6 million+ diaspora to build a movement for advancing democracy, equity and self-determination by supporting and strengthening civil society in each territory. To achieve this, Right to Democracy focuses on engaging with local and national partners to build and expand the philanthropic infrastructure of the territories.
