About this grant

The goal of this grant is to address systemic injustices faced by poor and marginalized people in South Africa. To this end, the Black Sash Trust will implement various activities aimed at addressing the structural drivers of poverty, unemployment and inequality. It plans to achieve this by championing comprehensive social protection and, in collaboration with community advice offices, expanding access to justice for millions of South Africans living in poverty. Founded in 1955, the grantee was established to protest the cruelty of apartheid laws. For 70 years, the grantee has worked to advance human rights and democracy in South Africa. The Black Sash Trust’s aim is to contribute to the creation of a society that has effective laws and comprehensive social protection for the most vulnerable.
