About this grant
The project aims to strengthen the development of community foundations across Kenya. Over the past two years, the Kenya Community Development Foundation has worked with initiative groups in 11 of Kenya’s 47 counties to support their growth. This has included: 1) strengthening community engagement; 2) enhancing leadership and governance structures; 3) building capacity to mobilize funding from local sources; and 4) facilitating peer learning by connecting initiative groups to share experiences. During this period, the Kenya Community Development Foundation also participated in national, regional and international forums to share its experience as a community foundation and its approach to supporting the growth of community foundations across the country. Over the next two years, the Kenya Community Development Foundation will support the establishment of two urban-based community foundations, drawing on its experience as an urban community foundation. It will also provide tailored support to the existing initiative groups, document their experiences and lessons learned, and strengthen their efforts to build financial reserves. Established in 1997 and based in Nairobi, the Kenya Community Development Foundation promotes community-driven approaches to development across Kenya.
