About this grant
The goal of this project is to strengthen and expand community foundations in Malawi. Since the project’s inception, Mudzi Connect (formerly World Connect Malawi) has introduced the concept of community foundations to 16 groups. This initiative has resulted in the establishment of 10 active community foundations. To further raise awareness of this concept, the grantee has partnered with local media outlets to conduct regular interviews. Over the next two years, the grantee aims to support an additional six initiative groups and strengthen the existing 10 community foundations. This support will include efforts to build income-generating facilities and establish endowment funds, ensuring the long-term sustainability of these community foundations. Additionally, the grantee will facilitate the development of a network of community foundations to foster collaboration and mutual learning. Since its inception in 2018, the grantee has supported over 121 communities across the country, unlocking more than $1 million for activities that are community-led and community-prioritized. In 2021, Mudzi Connect became an independent grantmaking entity to further support community-driven development.
