About this grant

Countries across the Global South face an urgent need to mobilize large-scale, affordable climate finance without exacerbating debt distress or fiscal instability. The Global Development Policy Center at Boston University — a prestigious institution of higher learning — seeks to advance financial stability, human wellbeing and environmental sustainability. With prior Mott Foundation funding, the grantee strengthened the transparency of Chinese development finance institutions, shifted Chinese development finance towards investment in cleaner energy and trained a new generation of scholar-advocates. With this grant, the Global Development Policy Center will work to enable an increase in energy transition financing through work on three interrelated areas: debt sustainability, country platforms and China’s role in development finance institutions.
