About this grant

The Savanna Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting small- to medium-scale farmers in the Great Lakes in adopting agroforestry models that restore soil health, improve farm viability and deliver measurable water-quality benefits. The grantee’s proposed project aims to deliver three outcomes. First, the organization will scale agroforestry as a nature-based solution to improve water quality in the Great Lakes region through a network of model agroforestry farms. Secondly, the organization will further develop a framework that links measurable water-quality improvements from agroforestry to financial incentives for farmers. Lastly, the Savanna Institute will engage various stakeholders through strategic communications on the potential role of agroforestry as a tool for nature-based water-quality improvement and rural economic transformation in the Great Lakes region.
