About this grant
This grant will enable the University of Michigan to develop a national survey and research database of children’s savings account programs. More than a simple inventory, the project will identify existing programs, classify them using a clear definition, assess their alignment with key design principles and create a standardized resource for research, philanthropy and policy development. The database will serve the broad field, including researchers, policymakers, practitioners and funders. The University of Michigan’s Center for Assets, Education and Inclusion is a leading research center in the Child Development Account field, having conducted many of the studies that have shaped practice and informed policy development, including evaluations of San Francisco’s Kindergarten to College program, Maine’s Harold Alfond College Challenge and Promise Indiana in Wabash County.
