About this grant
This grant enables Flint Community Schools to modernize five elementary playgrounds, using the Brownell STEM Academy Model as a blueprint. The project ensures all elementary students have safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate spaces that foster physical activity and social-emotional growth. In partnership with the Flint Center for Educational Excellence, the district will use a community co-design process — engaging staff, families and neighborhood leaders — to create playgrounds that serve students and the broader community alike. This parks and playgrounds initiative is part of a Mott Foundation centennial strategy to celebrate and elevate the bright spots that make Flint a great place to live, work and play.
