About this grant
This grant increase supports the transition of the Nonprofit Employment Data Project, housed at George Mason University, as it becomes affiliated with Independent Sector. This new partnership comes at a critical time, as the sector continues to make progress in gaining better and more regular access to nonprofit employment data from the federal government. The Nonprofit Works tool, developed by the Nonprofit Employment Data Project team provides ready access to hard data on the economic impact of the nonprofit sector, giving users the ability to determine: 1) how many people work for nonprofits in each state, city and county; 2) how average wages for nonprofits compare to those in other sectors; and 3) key trends in nonprofit employment or wages over time. Founded in 1980, Independent Sector currently has 453 organizational members and advances its mission by fostering a sense of belonging, catalyzing action and providing policy leadership across the full breadth of the charitable sector.
