About this grant
University of Michigan-Flint is an important anchor institution for downtown Flint and the city more broadly. The university is committed to ensuring that it is an attractive choice for students seeking higher education across the region, while also being a strong contributor to the local community. As its next stage of growth, the university will develop and launch an intercollegiate athletics program on its campus. This will be achieved through renovating its current athletics facility; investing in equipment, technology, marketing and other startup costs; and hiring an athletic director and other staff. An intercollegiate athletics program is expected to be attractive to current and prospective students, lead to a more vibrant campus experience, and foster greater community engagement and affinity with the university.
