About this grant

The City of Flint, under emergency financial management, disconnected from the Detroit water system and began treating and utilizing water from the Flint River approximately 18 months ago as a short-term solution until the city could connect to the new Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline. Unfortunately, while utilizing Flint River water, high levels of lead have been identified in the water. Due to health concerns, it is necessary that the City of Flint switch back to Detroit water until the Karegnondi Water Authority pipeline is completed in mid-2016. Grant funds, along with funds from the City of Flint and the State of Michigan, will be used to pay the additional cost of purchasing Detroit water for the residents of Flint.
