About this grant

The annual Tapology Tap Dance Festival for Youth is a collaborative effort between the Flint Institute of Music and Tapology, Inc., to preserve the heritage of tap dance as an American art form. The festival brings local school children to the cultural center campus to expose them to the art of tap dance, provides workshops for dance students of all skill levels, and brings in professional artists to work with students and perform at local extended care facilities. A tap competition is also held, and competition winners perform on stage along with professional dancers for a public concert at The Whiting. While Tapology undertakes activities throughout the year, this grant supports the four-day festival, which is expected to serve 2,100 students, seniors, and concert attendees.
